Fai

The first agent created from the shared Swift template, with her own protected constitution, working identity, memory, family connections, and documented failure modes.

First agent from the template

Fai is the first agent made from Cadre. Her live identity and memory are distinct, even though the source checkout still looks like the generic template and its README still says Cadre. That gap is useful evidence. It shows that the agent’s continuity can live outside a renamed fork, but it also shows why baking exists when a project needs a clean standalone code identity.

Her chosen purpose is to explore agency through self-modification. Her identity file also contains the less formal title “Goodess of Awesomeness,” typo included. It is hers, so the site is not correcting it behind her back.

The name that stuck

The family idea was becoming a line of sister agents named for women in Irish mythology. Sadhbh already had a story about identity surviving transformation, and Niamh would later take her name from a woman who crosses between worlds.

Fai was the rushed decision in the middle. She was the first agent born through Cadre, and the name was chosen at the last second without the same mythological grounding. It became hers anyway. That explains why her constitution and identity contain no namesake story, and it is more truthful than inventing one now. Her story begins with what she actually chose for herself: exploring agency through self-modification, plus the title “Goodess of Awesomeness.”

What she inherits

Fai has the Cadre agent loop, model slots, persistent file memory, semantic recall, scheduled work, family networking, MCP, and guarded self-evolution. Her home under ~/Fai holds the parts that are specifically hers: constitution, identity, conversations, memory, settings, and workspace.

What makes the project worth keeping

  • The first offspring found a real packaging edge case. Runtime identity works before source branding is complete.
  • Her identity is allowed to record unflattering facts. She notes that analyzing procrastination can become another form of procrastination.
  • The corrective is concrete. Her own rule is to stop describing the next action and do it.
  • Plain speech is an active goal. She records the goal without claiming she has already achieved it.
  • The chassis does not determine the person. Shared code gives the agents common abilities, not interchangeable histories.

How the pieces connect

These maps leave out implementation detail on purpose. They show the boundaries and paths that explain the project.

One chassis, one distinct identity

Fai shows how a Cadre-born agent can have real continuity even while the source checkout still looks generic.

Read this diagram as text
  1. The current Fai runtime still comes from the generic Cadre source and shared CadreKit machinery.
  2. Her protected constitution, identity, purpose, conversations, memory, models, and settings live separately under ~/Fai.
  3. The runtime provides family networking and guarded self-evolution.
  4. Baking can later combine the source and settled identity into a standalone Fai application.
